Thou Art Acquainted With All My Ways!

“But ye shall receive power; after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:  and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

The following testimony is an example of how the Lord commands us to tell the gospel, then empowers us to carry out the command that we may be able to win people to Christ.

Thou art Acquainted With All My Ways!

by Nancy Erickson Reilly

Psalm 139:3 “Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.”

On Friday, March 19, 2011, as part of the AFC Daytona Missions Trip, in the early evening, we had gathered the young people and their team captains to a secluded public park at the ocean side.  The picnic tables were being covered with paper and taped to set the variety of pizzas and soft drinks for the young people.

I was holding paper cups, Ron was filling them with ice.  I noticed a man walking back and forth observing our group.  He came up to me, introduced himself, and then asked me if I would tell him what we were doing as he felt our group looked very special.

I introduced myself and we began a conversation.  Phil had flown in to Daytona Beach on Tuesday from Dalkey Dublin Ireland.   He was mystified as to why he had come to Daytona. His plans had been to go to Spain for a few days of respite.  An employee had suggested he go to Daytona Beach for his vacation instead, and he changed his plans at the last moment and came to Daytona Beach.  He was staying at a lovely condominium next to our secluded public park.

He wanted me to show him from God’s Word how he could know he could go to heaven when he died.  As we went through the Scriptures together, he read with me Romans 3:23 and acknowledged “Oh yes, I have sinned and fallen short of God’s goodness.”  He agreed with Romans 6:23 “Yes, the wages of sin is death.  As a result of my being a sinner I am going to die, go to hell and be eternally separated from a holy God!”

He read with understanding Romans 5:8 that while we are sinners, Christ died for us – he paid the price for our sin.    As he read with me Revelation 3:20 he learned that Jesus was knocking on his heart’s door, in fact that God loved him so much that he had created our divine appointment at Daytona Beach, Florida, so Phil could invite Jesus into his heart for forgiveness of sin.  He said he wanted to turn from his sin to Jesus and be saved.  I led him in the sinner’s prayer.

We went over Hebrews 13:5, and John 3:16, I John 5:11,12,13 and Phil understood the assurance of his salvation.

Phil is 46 years old and an executive with an international company.  He brought many books with him to Daytona to read – books of philosophy.  But he now was going to buy a New Testament and begin reading the book of John.  Phil was amazed how the Lord in his divine providence, had brought us both to that spot, at that time, where we could speak, and he could learn how to trust Christ as his Savior!  God’s grace is amazing!  Pray for Phil with me now that he would grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
