“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8
The Lord wants all of us as Christians to be successful, but not according to the world’s standard of what success means. Only in the Word of God do we find true success, as our text clearly teaches. Let us look at three levels of true success that we find in God’s Word.
First we see that God’s way to true success is Acknowledging Christ in all your ways. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and learn not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him , and he shall direct thy paths.” The way we acknowledge Him is through our trust in Him, the wisdom we acquire from Him and the obedience we apply to His commands in the Bible. Have you acknowledged the Lord in the Salvation of your soul, the Surrender of your life and Service from your heart?
In the second place, God’s way to true success is Avoiding the Pitfalls. “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.” Proverbs 4:14,15. There are pitfalls all around us and Satan is actively trying to trap us through temptation so we will fall into some sin that could ruin our life. The best thing all of us can do is listen to God (Proverbs 14:13,) and do what He tells us to do by avoiding the evil path and evil people. Sin hurts and can leave scars on a persons life. Sin is not our friend, the evil path is not our friend and evil people can cause us to fall.” Proverbs 4:16.
Finally, God’s way to true success is Allowing the Lord to work in your Heart and Life. The Lord is continually speaking to us through His Word. We need a personal relationship with the Lord on a daily basis as we read our Bible and pray. We also need to be in a good church where the Lord can speak to us through the teaching and preaching of the Word of God. He wants us to develop a burden for the lost that are all around us ,so that we would strive to win them to Christ. There is someone around your life right now that needs someone to care about them and their lost condition. Would you allow God to give you compassion and use you to really care about others and know the success of winning others to Him?
