Seek Christ First

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

Who is number one in your life today? The only way for a Christian to truly be happy is when we put Jesus Christ number one, sitting on the throne of our heart, and in charge of our lives. But so often other things or even people can become more important to us and all of a sudden Jesus takes a back seat in our thinking, our decisions, and our actions.

When Jesus Christ is first in our lives, there will be very important things that will be evident to those around us and everyone will be able to detect that Christ is number one. First of all there will be a compliance to the Word of God. We will love the Word of God and seek to be in it daily. “O how love I thy Law! (Word of God) it is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97

His Word lights our path so we do not go in a wrong direction. “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 When we stay focused in His Word, He will direct every step we take so we will not misstep and go in a wrong direction. “Order my steps in thy word, and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalm 119:133. His word will give us understanding for every decision we must make. “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” Psalm 119:130.

Another thing that will be evident in our lives is a commitment to being right and staying right. As long as we stay in His word daily, pray and follow His voice we will stay right with Him. “For the ways of the Lord are right; and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.” Hosea 14:9b And if we should fall into some sin and out of fellowship with Him, the Lord always bids us to come back into fellowship as He did Israel. “O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God, for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.” Hosea 14:1 Because of the shed blood of Jesus we cannot only be saved for all eternity, but also confess any sin that is blocking our fellowship and enjoy sweet fellowship and service once again. I John 1:9

The third thing that will become evident is that we will be compelled to share the gospel to those all around our lives. This one thing drove the apostle Paul, everyday he lived on this earth, after his conversion to Christ, Paul’s preaching, sharing the gospel, in personal witnessing and winning people to Christ came from a burning desire in his heart to give the gospel to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16 And when we have a part in people coming to Christ we always remember that we have nothing to glory in ourselves. Paul said, “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is me, if I preach not the gospel!” I Corinthians 9:16

Is Christ first in your life today? If He is not why don’t you surrender to Him now?
